Fuel injection components, service and repair:
First there were Carburetors, then came the Throttle body injection which has been replaced with Electronic fuel injection or sequential fuel injection. These systems have a fuel injector for each cylinder, usually located so that they spray right at the intake valve.
The main components are the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail and then the fuel injector itself.
A mass air flow Sensor monitor's the mass of air entering the engine,an oxygen sensor mounted in the exhaust system measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. There are other sensors also which send voltage signals to the ECM. The ECU uses this information to fine-tune the fuel delivery so that the air-to-fuel ratio is just right.
The amount of fuel flow is proportionate to the pressure exerted on the fuel (fuel pump), the time allowed to flow (ECM controls the injector open time in milli seconds) and the size of the passage the liquid flows through (passages drilled into the injector tip, this is constant).
A fuel injector is an electronically controlled valve. It is supplied with pressurized fuel by the fuel pump in the automobile, and it is capable of opening and closing many times per second. When the injector is energized, an electromagnet moves a plunger that opens the valve, allowing the pressurized fuel to squirt out through a tiny nozzle. The nozzle is designed in such a way as to atomize the fuel making a fine mist so that it burn's easily. The amount of fuel delivered to the engine is determined by the amount of time the fuel injector stays open. This is called the pulse width, and it is controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM OR ECU).
The fuel injector is placed on the intake manifold with its tip right into the cylinder, the firing and final combustion create enormous heat. Over a period of time carbon builds up clogging the injector spray holes .The fuel filter could get clogged up with sediments and reduce fuel flow .The fuel pump works constantly and the performance could deteriorate with time resulting in low fuel pressure or no fuel pressure. When the fuel pressure is low the most probable parts to replace are the fuel filter and pump.
when and if you notice a loss in acceleration or power, or your car hesitates or gives fewer miles per gallon of gasoline, When a complete fuel injection cleaning service is performed, you can restore lost performance by removing carbon deposits on the injector tips that can prevent the amount of fuel injected through the fuel injectors. We offer a service that utilizes a machine to circulate a chemical solution through all of your vehicle’s fuel system components. The service removes carbon, gum and varnish from your engine – from intake to exhaust.
